Long story short, I have a new Tumblr art blog at KyleYoungblom.tumblr.com. I’ll probably continue to post random sketches and doodles here, but the new blog will be where I’ll be posting more finished work.
Long story long: when you first sign up for Tumblr, you’re assigned a primary blog which becomes your identity on the platform, whether you’re following blogs, responding to questions, or liking posts. You can create as many secondary blogs as you want, but they can never become your primary blog or vice versa. Since Postwaste was created as a secondary blog, I’ve had to create a new account and a new primary blog to use as my main Tumblr persona. Bewildering, I know, but it doesn’t seem like this issue is going to be resolved any time soon so I’ve just decided to bite the bullet. See you on the other side!
I briefly chatted with Catherine Rokitka, a Seattle-based games artist, at GDC. After checking out her work, I was inspired to sketch out this guy loosely based on some of her designs. 40 minutes.
I’m freaking out about GDC a little bit, so I did an ugly lumpy sculpt to keep my mind off work I should actually be doing.
Some artists appeal to the masses with nostalgia or fan art, or even beauty. My big strategy is to create gross unappealing weirdos. I think it’ll really resonate with people.
